Godelieve Schrama harp
Leiden the Netherlands 1969
With Godelieve Schrama the harp makes an energetic entry into the twentyfirst century. She shows what the harp as a solo instrument is capable of and by doing so succeeds in surprising the most sophisticated ears. Her repertoire is varied and colourful. She places her instrument just as convincingly against a baroque background as she does in a wholly contemporary context. Godelieve Schrama, who once said that she 'just wanted to see what she could get out of the instrument, experienced in the past years a grateful audience and a quick succession of domestic and foreign music prizes, including the highest award given to musicians by the Dutch state. The English professional press praised her 'sharp characterizing' and her 'almost virile style'. Dutch critics called her playing 'astounding', 'masterly' and 'exciting'.
